Investment Opportunities coming under Hambantota International Airport
Hambantota International Airport (HIA) is in the process of being developed as an environmental friendly Airport. It is expected to provide Regional and International passenger and cargo terminal facilities, in the aviation development plan of Sri Lanka. This project anticipates infrastructure development in the area creating new export market opportunities in the agriculture sector and tourism industry, thus raising living standards of the native people not only in Hambantota, but also in the area nearby Badulla and Monaragala Districts. Accordingly, the objectives of HIA have been identified in order to facilitate the establishment of gateway for economic and infrastructure in Sri Lanka. Furthermore HIA plays a vital supportive role in the development activities in the Hambantota area and capture entire market share of the regional traffic growth. Non Aviation related venture - Courier service hubs ( DHL, Fedex & UPS)
- Fruits and vegetables collecting, processing and export packing
- Spices and other non traditional products – collecting, processing and export packing
- Marine products – collecting, cold storage processing and packing
- Light industries like laptop computer and pc assembly, mobile phone assembly, high precision electricity parts manufacture, etc.
- Automobile parts manufacture and storage for distribution

In order to obtain favorable additional results on above matters, HIA has identified key developments in and around HIA development of superior transport network, development of low cost hotels, development of top class medical facilities to promote indigenous medical facilities. The Request For Proposals (RFP) which has been prepared by the following qualified working committee for fulfilling the above facts.

The approval for the relevant report prepared, has been received from the Standing Cabinet Appointed Review Committee (SCARC).The Request For Proposal Document (RFP Document) was submitted to the investors through newspapers, 26 foreign missions in Sri Lanka and the Web site of Airport & Aviation Services (SL) Ltd. Thirty five (35) investors have expressed their interest with regard to this report. A pre bid meeting was held on 23.02.2012 at the premises of Hambantota International Airport.
